These Nutella blondies are rich, fudgy with a layer of creamy hazelnut chocolate spread! But what are blondies exactly I hear you say, let me explain…
Once upon a time in the dessert kingdom, there was a sweet little treat that lived in the shadow of its more famous sibling, the chocolate brownie. This treat was the blondie, a dessert bar that, despite its golden appearance, often had to explain, “No, I’m not a brownie, and yes, I’m supposed to be this color.”
The blondie, you see, is like the brownie’s quirky cousin who decided that cocoa just wasn’t their style. Instead, the blondie flaunts a vanilla base and revels in its rich butterscotch flavor, thanks to the generous use of brown sugar. It’s a confection that dances to the beat of its own whisk, often studded with white chocolate chips, but in this recipe we are going all out. We are adding dark chocolate chips, chocolate chunks and creamy Nutella in the middle!
But let’s not forget the history of this golden bar. Blondies have been around since at least the late 19th century, a good ten years before chocolate brownies even entered the scene. That’s right, the blondie is the O.G. of dessert bars, a pioneer of sweetness that paved the way for its cocoa-laden counterparts.

Why should I make these Nutella Blondies?
There are so many reasons why you should make these Nutella blondies, but here’s a few below-
- They are very easy to make! Perfect for when you want something sweet and uncomplicated.
- If you like brownies and fancy a change.
- If You love Nutella! These blondies have a creamy Nutella layer in the middle which tastes amazing.
- If you love chocolate chip cookies, you will love blondies. They have a similar golden caramel flavour but with blondies you get a whole bar all to yourself!
Tips for making perfect blondies?
Blondies are very easy to make, which is why I love them, however here are some tips to make sure yours are a success!
- Do not over mix the blondie batter, once you add the flour mix the dough together using a spatula until it has just come together and you do not see any flour.
- Do not add too much blondie batter to the bottom of the brownie tin otherwise you will not have enough to cover the Nutella layer.
- Do not over bake the blondies, you want them to be fudgy. If you over bake them they will be more dry like a cookie.
How do I make these Nutella Blondies?
- Melt the butter in the microwave.
- Add the light brown sugar, mix together using a spatula. Set aside to cool for 5 minutes.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract, stir together using a whisk.
- Add the sifted flour and salt. Mix together until just combined using a spatula.
- Fold in the dark chocolate chips and chocolate chunks.
- Add half the blondie batter in a lined 20cm x 20cm brownie tin. Spread it flat using a spatula, then add 4tbsp of Nutella on top. Using the back of a spoon spread the Nutella over the blondie layer leaving a small gap around the sides. Spread the remaining blondie batter on top of the Nutella layer.
- Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips and chunks on top.
- Bake in the oven at 175c fan for 30 minutes.
- Let the blondies completely cool before cutting into them.
What’s the best way to serve them?
They taste great as they are, but my favourite way is to warm them a little in the microwave and serve them with a drizzle of melted dark chocolate and vanilla ice cream! It tastes so good!
