Tips for Making the Best Doughnut Wreath

Before you get started, here are a few helpful tips that will make assembling your doughnut wreath even easier. These simple tricks will help you create a sturdy, beautiful and festive centrepiece that holds together and looks like it came straight from a Christmas magazine!

  • Use mini ring doughnuts for the most “wreath-like” look and easy stacking.
  • Build your wreath on a ring of foil or if you have time to order a foam wreath ring for structure (wrap it in parchment or foil first).
  • Start by placing doughnuts around on top leaving gaps in between, then layer inside and outside to add fullness.
  • Mix it up! Use a variety of glazed, sugared, iced or chocolate mini doughnuts for a pretty finish.
  • Decorate with berries, rosemary sprigs, mint leaves, sprinkles, or mini chocolates to give it a festive look.
  • If travelling with it, assemble at the destination or secure with cocktail sticks (remove before serving).

FAQs – Easy Christmas Doughnut Wreath

Can I make this the day before?
It’s best assembled on the day, as doughnuts can dry out. You can prep the base, layout and decorations ahead of time to make assembly quicker. Once it’s assembled cover with cling film but make sure it doesn’t touch the top of the wreath.

What can I use instead of a foam wreath ring?
You can make a ring like i did with foil!

How do I get the doughnuts to stick?
Cocktail sticks or toothpicks help hold everything in place. For a kid-friendly option, use icing or melted chocolate as “glue”.

Can I decorate it with more than 3 ingredients?
Yes – the core recipe only needs 3 ingredients, but you can absolutely add extra toppings like drizzle, sprinkles or festive sweets.

What type of doughnuts work best?
Powdered and sugar-coated ring doughnuts are easiest to assemble, but chocolate or cinnamon-coated doughnuts add great colour and flavour.

Can I make this allergy-friendly?
Yes! Swap for nut-free, dairy-free or gluten-free mini doughnuts and choose allergy-safe decorations to suit your guests.

Ingredients

Easy Christmas Doughnut Wreath

  • 50 mini doughnuts (powdered and sugar-coated for variety)
  • Fresh cranberries (for decoration and festive colour)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (to mimic wreath foliage)

Other items needed

  • Foil or a foam wreath ring for structure
  • Cocktail sticks to secure doughnuts

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base:
Form a 1.5” thick, 9” wide foil ring to act as the wreath base. Wrap it tightly so it holds its shape. Alternatively, use a foam wreath ring.

  2. Attach the doughnuts:
Using cocktail sticks, secure each mini doughnut onto the foil ring. Start by placing doughnuts on top of the ring, leaving gaps in between, then fill the inner  & outer circle to create a full, rounded wreath. Alternate powdered and sugar-coated doughnuts for a visually appealing pattern. Alternatively: If making for young children, use melted chocolate to stick the doughnuts onto the ring. Wait for the chocolate to cool and become thicker so the doughnuts do not slide around too much.

  3. Add cranberries:
Push fresh cranberries on cocktail sticks, then push them in between the doughnuts to fill gaps.

  4. Insert rosemary sprigs:
Gently tuck rosemary sprigs into remaining gaps to cover the foil and give your wreath a lush, green, natural look.

  5. Finishing touches:
Check for any gaps or loose doughnuts and adjust as needed. Optional: add extra icing sugar or festive decorations for a snowy effect.

  6. Serve:
Place your wreath on a festive plate or cake board. Guests can pick doughnuts off the wreath for a fun, interactive dessert.

  7. To store: Make as close as possible to serving so the doughnuts do not become dry. Keep the wreath covered so it is air tight.
