If you’re a Greggs lover and believe romance should involve pastry, cheese and comfort food, this one’s for you. This Greggs-style sausage, bean & cheese melt is baked into a heart shape, making it perfect for Valentine’s Day, a cosy date night, or just treating yourself to something fun and nostalgic. It’s everything you love about the classic Greggs favourite – golden pastry, savoury sausage, rich baked beans and melted cheese – but made easily at home, with a playful twist that proves beige food can still be romantic.

Ingredients

Greggs-style sausage beans and cheese melt (makes 6)

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (Jus-rol)
  • Can of baked beans
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Cheddar cheese
  • 3 cooked sausages

Other items needed

  • egg yolk (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Draw a 4.5"x 4.5" heart shape on a piece of paper, cut it out, use this to cut the heart shapes out of the puff pastry. Or use a cookie cutter.
  2. Using a knife cut the puff pastry sheets into 12 heart shape, using the paper heart as a guide.
  3. Place 6 puff pastry hearts in a baking tray with baking paper.
  4. Place 2 spoonfuls of baked beans on top. (do not add to much as it will leak)
  5. 4-5 pieces of sliced sausage, then some grated cheddar and mozzarella.
  6. Use a knife and score lines on the remaining 6 puff pastry hearts, place on top.
  7. Push the edges down, then use a fork to stick the edges together.
  8. Egg wash, then bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes at 180c fan.
